LAST Sunday was the 10th Wallingford Vehicle Rally and Parade and the first time there were awards for Cowley Car of the Day and MG of the Day. This is the second year that I have organised a special Cowley Car display at the rally, and the first year for MG display.
The Cowley Car of the Day award was won by Levan Bekmarmarchev with his 1968 beautiful Morris Minor Traveller, which he restored himself and the MG of the Day was won by Bob Howden with his fantastic 1930 MG M Type Midget.
Nuffield Place, the former home of Lord Nuffield (William Morris) and now managed by the National Trust, had a stand at Wallingford and also judged and presented the Cowley Car of the Day award. Marcus Rowe, from the Young Morris Minors judged and presented the MG of the Day award.
I believe that it is important to both remember and inform those who don’t know about the history of vehicle manufacture at Cowley and Abingdon of its significance to the local area and to let the next generation know.
There is surely no better way of doing this than through the vehicles themselves. I am grateful to the organisers of the rally and parade who both allow me and support me to have these displays.
Should you wish to see more vehicles manufactured at Cowley and Abingdon, please come along to Cowley Classic Car Show on Sunday, August 17, at Court Place Farm, Marston.
