The question people should be asking regarding the series “Wantage — A great place to live”, is if we really need all of these thousands of new houses in Wantage and the surrounding villages, why should it be necessary to advertise for people to come and live in them?

No doubt the developers, who presumably are paying for these advertisements, fear building a ghost town. The problem overlooked by Government is that you cannot build for future generations, builders need their houses to be sold as soon as they are built, they cannot afford to mothball them to wait for “future generations”. Furthermore, a sudden glut of large numbers of houses must collapse the price and we risk the prospect of what happened in Manchester, ghettoes of empty houses and abandoned building sites of half-completed houses because builders will understandably not wish to sell them at less than they cost to build.
