BIRTHDAY bubbly, cake and a card from the Queen greeted Violet Davies yesterday for her 100th birthday.
Mrs Davies celebrated in style at Glebe House in Kidlington surrounded by her two daughters, grandchildren and 12 year-old great granddaughter Amelia.
The centenarian was born in Tamworth on May 6, 1914, and grew up in Worcestershire.
She worked as a nurse in Chipping Norton during the Second World War.
Her brother, who served in the Oxon and Bucks Light Infantry as a soldier and dispatch rider, died in France during the conflict and was buried in Caan.
Mrs Davies met her husband William Davies at a dance in Churchill and they went on to have two daughters, Carol and Alison.
Mrs Mills, 65 said: “She used to cycle home to Churchill during the War with no lights on her bike.
“She was always such an independent lady.”
The family all sat down for a cream tea and scones yesterday afternoon.
Mrs Davies said she had a lovely day but was very tired after two days of celebrations.
Her granddaughter Emma Bone, who is mother to Amelia and 10 year-old Lucy Bone said: “It was amazing.”
