POLITICIANS these days seem to be getting younger.

And with many criticising MPs for being career politicians, perhaps it seems a good idea that they get as much practice in as possible.

But Ed Turner, the deputy leader of Oxford City Council, appears to be taking that principle a bit too far.

Mr Turner brought his infant son Freddie – named, The Insider suspects, in tribute to a former Oxford Mail politics reporter – to this month’s meeting of the city executive board.

And the youngster managed to sit through most of the meeting without making a fuss.

There are a number of councillors who could learn something from young Freddie.

RODNEY Rose, the deputy leader of Oxfordshire County Council, visited his dentist on Friday to have his wisdom teeth removed.

But before that he was in London lobbying for funding towards the £125m flood relief channel he wants to build around Oxford.

The Conservative can’t be a bad negotiator, because he came home with £12m – every little helps, to coin a phrase.

And perhaps it’s just as well, because otherwise he would have been in for an even more painful day.

WHEN many people stand for election they do so after careful consideration.

But one Oxford candidate has managed to find his name on the ballot by mistake.

Headington resident Nick Fell is, as of Wednesday afternoon, still listed as a candidate in the Oxford City Council elections for Headington Hill and Northway.

But when one of The Insider’s colleagues contacted him, Mr Fell said he had already told city council officers that he didn’t want to stand after not being accredited as a UKIP candidate.

So please note once and for all city council that, wait for it, Nick Fell by the wayside.
