AS we learned this week that more than £250,000 of council support for help with the rent will not be spent, it is clear that the council must do more to help people to access the help that is available.
Now we will have to hand this money back to the Government.
Many people are feeling the squeeze from the Government’s cuts to benefits.
This pot of money is there to provide temporary help to people whose housing benefit will not cover the rent.
For example if you’ve been hit by the bedroom tax or benefit cap.
Next year, I want to see all this support go out to people that need it.
SAM HOLLICK, Green councillor for Holywell, Stratford Street, Oxford
