CHRIST Church’s sub dean has taken his very own leap of faith to raise cash for charity.
Edmund Newey, who took up the post at the famous city cathedral last summer, abseiled down St Mary Magdalen Church in Magdalen Street, Oxford, on Saturday.
He was collecting sponsorship for Christian Aid – an international development charity that works to eradicate poverty – and aims to raise £500.
Mr Newey said: “It was very exciting. I hadn’t done it since I was about nine so it brought back all those memories.
“I was nervous. Once I got over the edge, I trusted the rope and was loving it.”
He added: “I have been a long-term supporter of Christian Aid.
“Since coming to Christ Church in the summer, I have tried to develop close links with the Christian Aid group. It was a challenge I was glad to take on.”
