RICHARD Hawkins, the lock-keeper who has saved two people from flood waters over the past few days, may not view himself as a hero, necessarily.
He believes he reacted as anyone would when someone is in trouble.
To a certain extent he is right. But crucially for the young boy and boat owner he saved, Mr Hawkins had the training and experience to know what to do and when to do it.
His knowledge has saved lives.
