A TEENAGER arrested following the death of 15-year-old Martha Fernback has admitted selling drugs to schoolchildren.

Oxford Crown Court heard yesterday that Alex Williams, 17, made a £20 profit with the £40 MDMA deal in July last year.

Cherwell School pupil Martha collapsed in Oxford’s Hinksey Park after taking what police say she thought was MDMA.

She was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington but was later pronounced dead.

Williams was arrested following the Summertown girl’s death on Saturday, July 20.

And he pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court yesterday to supplying the Class A drug MDMA on July 17 last year.

Williams, of Sycamore Road in Botley, Oxford has been released on conditional bail to be sentenced at the court by judge Mary Jane Mowat on Monday, March 10.

Referring to Martha’s death, Alistair Grainger, defending, yesterday told the court the “background of tragedy” should not affect the sentence handed out next month.

He said: “We are dealing with a single count. My submission is the background does not assist or affect the sentence.”

He later added: “This is a young man who has never bothered the court.”

An inquest into Martha’s death has been opened and adjourned until a date yet to be set.

Her mother Anne-Marie Cockburn – who declined to comment last night – has published the diaries she kept following the death of her daughter.

Her book – called 5,742 Days after the number of days Martha lived – was released by St Giles-based publishers Infinite Ideas on December 20, exactly five months since Martha’s death.

A pre-sentence report is due to be prepared for the sentencing next month.
