Plans to extend Banbury’s Castle Quay shopping centre were yesterday approved by councillors.
Cherwell District Council’s planning committee passed the plan for development around the Oxford Canal.
It will include a supermarket, cinema, restaurants and hotel, though concerns were raised that it will pull trade from other parts of the town.
Applicant Scottish Widows Investment Partnership said: “This is a significant and positive step to help rejuvenate Banbury town centre which will benefit other retailers, as well as residents in the town and surrounding villages.”
Further permission will be needed on detailed designs.
