The village’s annual show in 1986 was described by organisers, Grove Horticultural Society, as one of the best, attracting an estimated 5,000 people. It included horticultural classes, 30 stalls, exhibitions of steam engines and vintage cars, a fairground organ and a display by drum majorettes. Grove childminders organised a picnic party as their contribution to National Child Minding Week in 1985.

It was to be held in a Wantage park, but gloomy weather forced the organisers to move it indoors to a house in Grove. Pictured tucking in is two-year-old Stephanie Walker.
