IN his On Yer Bike column (January 21) James Styring says “it is pathetic to bleat about unlit cyclists and red light jumpers”.
Well, I object to those illegal cyclists, but I am not a sheep. I am a pensioner cyclist. It is Mr Styring who needs to grow up!
I also object to the cyclists who illegally pedal through Queen Street between 10am and 6pm, while I and other law-abiding cyclists are pushing their machines.
Mr Styring complains about “all those ‘I hate cyclists’ letters published continually in the Oxford Mail”. There would not be any if all cyclists obeyed the Highway Code.
The only useful and constructive part of his letter is about the county council’s plan to remove the cycle filter lane at the bottom of High Street. I support him in his view of that and will contact the Highways Department.
It has also a plan to spend some £900,000 of taxpayers’ money on ‘improving The Plain’. This was done some five years ago.
Any spare cash should be spent on care of the elderly and disabled whose budget is to be cut by some £7,000,000.
