Christmas is all but over and if your mind is turning to a New Year's resolutions, why not think about a greener way of life starting with that tree in the corner of your living room?

It is traditional to take down your Christmas tinsel and baubles by January 6, so take the opportunity to get rid of your Christmas tree in a green way.

District councils across Oxfordshire offer a range of services, from collection points to disposal in brown recycling bins.

WEST OXFORDSHIRE: You can take your tree to be chipped from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, January 6, at Spendlove Centre, Charlbury; Back Lane car park, Eynsham; or Hensington Road car park, Woodstock. On Sunday, January 7 from 10am to 3pm you can go to Black Bourton Road car park, Carterton; New Street car park, Chipping Norton; or Welch Way car park, Witney.

SOUTH OXFORDSHIRE: Christmas trees will be collected for composting if you put them in your brown garden waste bin.They can also be taken to Drayton, Oakley Wood or Redbridge recycling centres for composting from 8am to 5pm. You can take your tree back to where you bought it from on a Saturday or Sunday morning until January 14 at Notcutts Garden Centre; Waterperry Gardens; Wyevale Garden Centre, Harpsden; Route One Garden Centre; Toad Hall Garden & Machinery Centre; Greenshoots; The Herb Farm; Sonning Common or Christmas Common.

VALE OF WHITE HORSE: Milletts Farm Garden Centre; Charlton Park Garden Centre; Wyevale Garden Centre, South Hinksey, and Wyevale Garden Centre, Chilton.

CHERWELL: Christmas trees for composting will be collected if you put them in your brown garden waste bin.

OXFORD CITY: Tree collection points are open from January 3 to 15 January at Alexandra Court, North Oxford; North Way, Barton; Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre car park; Blackbird Leys Park; Bury Knowle Park; Manzil Gardens, East Oxford; Cutteslowe Park; Florence Park; Hinksey Park; Long Lane, Littlemore; Meadow Lane recreation ground; Westlands Drive, Northway estate; Oatlands recreation ground; Quarry recreation ground; Green Road, Risinghurst; South Park, and Sunnymead recreation ground.
