Henley Hawks put on their best performance of the season to destroy fellow Division 2 promotion challengers Blackheath 30-8 at Dry Leas on Saturday.

Skipper Liam Wordley led by example with some surging runs and was rewarded by scoring the final try in the 70th minute to earn the bonus point.

Full back Jim Farndon put Henley ahead with two penalty goals, the first courtesy of a deflection off an upright.

Shortly afterwards, the Hawks pack parked on the Blackheath line, and referee Chris Sharp issued a brace of yellow cards to Blackheath's Ken Aseme and Matt Webber.

It was no surprise that their continued transgressions led to the award of a penalty try which with Farndon's conversion, put the Hawks 13 points ahead.

This was reduced by three points by Matt Vaughan's penalty.

Taking advantage of playing against 13 men, Henley added their second try through scrum half James Honeyben, who went in under the posts for Farndon to convert.

With an 20-3 interval lead, Henley pressed for the bonus.

Barry Reeves, enjoying the best of games at No 10, tested Blackheath with grubber kicks before starting a sequence of play wich led to an excellent try by centre Luke Burns Hawks suffered the referee's wrath as Matt Payne and Stean Williams received yellow cards.

The visitors took advantage to score a try in the corner through flanker James Kellard, but Wordley, put away by Reeves, had the final say with that important fourth try.

Chinnor stay rooted to the bottom of Division 2 South after losing 16-13 in a tight game at home to Hertford.

Winger Michael O'Mahoney scored Chinnor's only try, while Richard Williams landed the conversion and two penalties.
