An accident early on Christmas Day has brought the number of deaths on Oxfordshire's roads this year to 68.

A 19-year-old man was killed after the blue Ford Fiesta he was driving came off the road and crashed into a field off the A4130, near North Moreton, east of Didcot.

His identity has not yet been released.

It is not known what caused the crash, which happened just after 10pm and left a passenger with injuries. Police closed the road until 2.55am to allow crash site investigators to examine the scene.

The teenager's death was the 12th this month, bringing the total number this year to 68 - 28 more than last year and the highest number of deaths on the county's roads in more than 16 years.

There was a spate of accidents across the county during the festive season.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to a collision between two vehicles in Oxford on Christmas Day at 8.15pm, in Balfour Road, Blackbird Leys.

Fire crews released one person from their vehicle, who was left in the care of the ambulance service, and made both vehicles safe.

A collision near the Wheatley services area, off the M40, left a car on fire and one woman needing treatment from ambulance crews. The incident happened just before 10am on Saturday.

An elderly man had to be cut from the wreckage of his car after a collision on the A34 between the Botley interchange and the Peartree roundabout at 7.50pm on Friday. A van and a car were involved in a collision.

Also on Friday, a man suffered back injuries when his car was involved in a collision and overturned. The incident happened on the B4449 between Standlake and Cote.

Firefighters were also called to a collision on the A4095 near Kirtlington at 7.30am on Friday. No-one was injured.
