TO read in the Oxford Mail (November 30) that Jonathan Beecher has submitted plans for sheltered housing and a music room overlooking ‘Narnia’, the woodland and the lake at the bottom of Lewis Close, and that BBOWT had not been consulted and had no knowledge of these plans, is dreadful.

Why does Mr Beecher not build a music room on his land with access from Wychwood Lane? If sheltered houses were to be built and sold they would sell for a phenomenal amount of money, especially with windows overlooking the lake.

To build anything on this historical, magical, tranquil place, full of natural beauty and wildlife, would be unforgivable.

People come from all over the world to visit – it’s a literary shrine for many. I take overseas visitors there and they are taken aback by its beauty with the variety of trees, wildflowers, blackberries and now the changing colours of the trees – beauty at its best.

I agree with Doug Gresham, who said it would be detrimental to the whole area. The lake and surroundings are very natural and a hidden gem.

Where in Oxford would one see the house (still well-preserved) that was lived in by the famous CS Lewis, along with its wonderful and well-tended gardens and the lake which he loved and spent many hours writing?

We are very privileged to still have all of this in Headington, not forgetting that CS Lewis is buried nearby in Quarry.

Please let it remain untouched by housing and may the magic of Narnia be with us forever – BBOWT, we are behind you.
