ELDERLY villagers are upset over cuts to their buses to Didcot.
From Sunday, Thames Travel is changing its service meaning villagers in Long Wittenham will only have two buses into Didcot each day, with the second service returning immediately — effectively one return service each day. This compares with four return services to Didcot a day now. There will be no services on Sundays or public holidays.
From Sunday, people in Long Wittenham going shopping in town will have to get the 10.34am bus and return on the 1.50pm.
Pensioner Dorothy Winter, of Saxons Heath, wrote to Thames Travel saying: “We have no shop or post office, and since my husband gave up driving we have been users of the bus service.
“Thames Travel are cutting the service to one a day and we will have to stay in Didcot almost four hours, which is unacceptable.”
Parish council chairman Tom Bowtell said: “We are really cross, especially because there has been no consultation.”
Thames Travel said Oxfordshire County Council had cut its subsidy for the services. The council declined to comment.
