IT WAS ladies’ night at the Broken Spoke bike Co-op in Oxford.
A dozen women took advantage of a free bike maintenance evening at the Pembroke Street workshop.
The event, last Wednesday night, was funded by European Waste Reduction Week.
Co-op founder and bike maintenance instructor Ellie Smith said the purpose of the workshop was to save people money on keeping their bike on the road.
Ms Smith, 28, who lives on a boat in Oxford, said: “Cycling is such a fundamental part of a sustainable transport system and living healthily.
“We are trying to get people cycling by giving them access to resources and the skills to be able to use their bike as a means of transport.
“We had a great turnout — I hope we have recruited some new members.”
Workshops are normally held every Friday and Saturday from noon to 6pm, and cost £7, £5 concessions.
