THE National Blood Service is urging people to roll up their sleeves this Christmas and give the perfect present - a pint of the red stuff.

Staff at the NBS are holding a donor session at the Marlborough Road Methodist Church on Saturday, December 30, from 10am to 2.25pm.

NBS spokesman Louise Coxon said: "This session is really important in helping to boost blood stocks during the Christmas holidays."

Traditionally the number of people who give blood between Christmas Day and New Year's Day falls by about ten per cent, but blood cannot be stockpiled and stored indefinitely.
