CHERWELL (Oxford) turned on the style to lift the Oxfordshire Under 16 Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Drayton (Banbury) in the final at Letcombe FC.

Playing against a stiff breeze in the first half, Cherwell made a nervous start.

But a goal from Richard Norris, who raced through to shoot past the Drayton keeper, settled them down.

Norris was then substituted due to stomach cramps, but his replacement Kyle Pullen, carried on where he left off by firing home No 2.

Drayton also had their chances, but Cherwell's back four of James Harris, Nick Albin, Jacob Mulvany and Marvin Martin held firm.

And when they did break through, goalkeeper Lewis Welby pulled off a superb save to preserve Cherwell's two-goal cushion at the break.

With Ashley Jones and Robert Bowerman bossing midfield, Cherwell strengthened their grip on the game in the second half with some good, passing football.

And it was Bowerman who made it 3-0, burying a shot from six yards after Drayton failed to clear a centre.

Cherwell were now in the clear, and Bowerman sealed victory with a right-foot scorcher from the edge of the penalty area which lodged in the angle of post and bar.

Now Cherwell go on to represent Oxon in the ESFA Royal Air Force Schools Cup in the new year.
