VALE Of White Horse Under 13s were no match for Reading as they went down 4-1 in their Meeson Trophy clash at Palmer Park.
Ben Whitehead netted for Vale late in the game with a solo effort after Vale had been unable to match their physically stronger and quicker opponents.
Meanwhile, Conor Ingram inspired Vale of White Horse Under 11s to a 3-2 comeback victory against Luton in a friendly at Crawley Green FC.
Two goals down after 15 minutes - including a harshly-awarded penalty - Vale pulled a goal back before the break.
Ingram played the ball through to Iain Pinder, who burst through two tackles before drilling a shot past the keeper.
Vale dominated the second half and Ingram capitalised on a poor clearance by the Luton keeper to set up Ross MacDonald for the equaliser.
And Ingram capped a fine individual display with the winner four minutes from time.
