CHILDREN at Tackley Primary School danced with excitement after they moved into their new school premises, rebuilt in 1976 after a fire which caused more than £40,000 damage.

The fire destroyed a general activity area, a classroom, the kitchen and cloakrooms. Other rooms were damaged by smoke.

During the rebuilding, the 67 pupils used temporary classrooms on the school football pitch.

When the work was completed, they carried furniture from the temporary classrooms to the new school and some of them danced a jig after doing so.

Headmistress Florence Page said: “We have managed very well in cramped conditions for 17 months and it will be lovely to be back under one roof again.”
