THE City of Oxford Silver Band was preparing to leave Oxford for a concert-packed tour of Germany and Holland.

The 40-member band had been invited to play at two international festivals in Germany – in Gersthofen and Vilseck – and to take part in a three-day musical event in Southern Holland.

By the time they returned to Oxford after their two-week visit in August 1975, they would have given 25 concerts.

Band secretary Frank Wolff said they had been asked to make the tour on the strength of the reputation they had gained abroad over the years.
