I am afraid my colleague, city councillor Stuart Craft (Oxford Mail, December 11), has got himself in a muddle.

The proposal to cut grants to advice centres is one made by Oxfordshire County Council, not Oxford City Council.

I am glad, however, that he will be joining city councillors of all parties in opposing this quite outrageous proposal, which is yet another example of the county council's contempt for the interests of the city.

He also makes some extraordinary claims about a report concerning allocations to two housing association blocks, Gibbs Crescent and Luther Court.

Apart from the council not having a policy, as he suggests it has, to prioritise those with drug and alcohol addictions for housing, he has completely misunderstood what was proposed at the November council meeting.

In fact, in order to get a better mix of tenants at those blocks, we agreed that some of these small dwellings should be allocated to 'key workers', rather than whoever comes up at the top of the list, so that there isn't such a concentration of people with medical needs of whatever sort.

Come on, Stuart - read the paperwork, then you'll be in a better position to contribute to the debate we need about these important issues, and not inadvertently mislead people through the local press.
