THE Witney mayor's candlelit Christmas carol service is to be held today at St Mary's Church, at 7pm.

Witney Town Band, bellringers and singers from local schools will perform, and there will be mulled wine and nibbles.

Mayor Chrissie Curry said: "It will be a very traditional Christmas carol service with carols that are beloved by everyone.

"I would like people to bring a gift for a senior citizen or a child in need which will be distributed in and around Witney before Christmas with the help of the Rotary Club of Witney. It will be a lovely service."

"The service will also be candlelit just to make the atmosphere really happy and Christmassy."

If people can't come to the service but would like to donate a gift they can leave them at Costa Coffee in the Woolgate Centre.

Gifts must be wrapped and marked if they are for a child or an elderly person.
