We are pleased to see that commonsense has prevailed at Oxford Town Hall and the city council will not be throwing thousands of pounds at lawyers to fight the county council's plans to charge for residents' parking permits.
As we have said before, this was a lose-lose situation for the council tax payer. Having two of our councils - who raise tax from the same households - fighting each other in court was a ridiculous situation.
It was never going to resolve the issue. Whatever one thinks of the decision, the county council has the right to make it. We presume that was the sensible legal advice the city council received in the end.
