AN OXFORD woman believes it is fortunate no one was killed after a car careered off the road into her driveway and shunted her car through the front of her house.

Christina Bayat, of Leiden Road, Wood Farm, was awoken by what she thought was a bomb going off at 2am on Monday - but it was actually a Ford Fusion ploughing into her Peugeot 306 and smashing it into her home.

The 52-year-old mother-of-two said she could not believe what she saw as she peered out of her son's bedroom window.

Her car is a write-off and parts of the front of her house will have to be rebuilt.

She said: "The noise was so loud. I ran to look out of the window and couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"It looked like the car had come straight out of the top of the road opposite and instead of turning just drove straight up my driveway into my car.

"Had this happened at a busier time of the day someone would have been killed.

"It was all so distressing to see. My car and part of my home have been destroyed."

Ms Bayat said her home is opposite the junction of Three Fields Road, which she believes is a dangerous junction and some form of traffic calming is needed along the road.

She said: "I am now going to raise this with Oxfordshire County Council."
