PUPILS from a North Oxfordshire school found out what it was like to live in the Victorian era — but just for a day.
Children from Sibford Gower Primary School, near Banbury, went for the day to St John’s Museum, Warwick. Youngsters donned traditional uniform for the period — sailor collars for the boys and pinafores for the girls., and started their day in a Victorian Schoolroom.
During lessons children wrote on slates, completed drill and counted on an abacus. Youngsters were also shown how Victorian children were caned.
Teacher Sally Gray said: “It was active and experimental while creating a feeling of authenticity with expert knowledge in beautiful surroundings.”
