AN ABANDONED dog has found a new life fighting crime in London.

German shepherd Dizzee was left at the Blue Cross Burford shelter in October last year after a relationship break-up, but staff could not find him a suitable home.

No-one would take him in and he was rejected by every police force in the land.

But the one-year-old was finally given a chance by the Metropolitan Police.

After less than eight months of training, the dog qualified to patrol the streets.

And he has already caught a flasher and a street robber.

Ryan Neile, Blue Cross animal behaviourist, said: “Despite having been rejected by every other force we got in touch with, we wouldn’t give up as we knew that Dizzee had what it took to be a police dog. He had so much talent and ability.

“It’s unusual for the Metropolitan Police to take rescue dogs like Dizzee as they breed their own from puppies, and it’s even rarer for one to make it through the challenging training and assessment, so I was delighted when they agreed to take him for a trial.”

Pc Marc Clancy, who is now Dizzee’s handler and owner, said: “When I first met Dizzee, he was a handful and he had no discipline.

“But deep down I knew that he was a nice dog who just wanted to be loved and cared for, and to have his energy channelled into the right place.

“Most of our dogs start their training when they are puppies, so Dizzee had a lot of catching up to do, and it’s credit to the instructors at the dog school who worked so hard with him that he managed to do it.

“He hates days off and wants to be at work all the time. Dizzee thinks all his Christmases have come at once now he has a job that he loves.”
