An Oxford University graduate has completed a 150-day solo row from Japan to Alaska – and returned engaged.
Sarah Outen, 28, arrived in Adak in the Aleutian Islands on Monday after rowing 4,315 miles in her boat Happy Socks.
The rower capsized five times during her journey and the voyage almost ended in disaster when she narrowly missed being struck by a cargo ship.
Ms Outen, who is attempting to cycle, row and kayak her way around the world, proposed to her girlfriend via satellite phone. Next year she will return to the Aleutian Islands to kayak to the mainland and aims to raise more than £100,000 for charity.
