DEBT is not a modern evil – but it certainly feels like one. The banking crisis, the widening wealth gap between rich and poor and the constant rush to keep up with the Joneses mean more and more of us seem, financially speaking, to be piling on the pounds.

So news that the debt centre in Rose Hill is proving to be such a success has to be good.

What is not so positive is that every new person through its doors is another potential person needing help.

And, as debt issues spiral and the benefits squeeze get tighter, the problem is likely to get worse before it gets better.
