Sir – The solution to traffic problems in Freiburg, Germany, cannot be held as a model for those in Oxford.
They developed an excellent tram service within the city and into the suburbs and shoppers and commuters can use this excellent and cheap mode of transport.
The mainline station is also within very easy walking distance of the city centre. Where in Oxford could we develop a good tram system, even if the huge amount of funding was available?
Where could the mainline station be re-sited? If we need to choose a model for solving our traffic problems, a more suitable one can surely be found.
