Sir – Re the sale of details on the electoral register (Report, September 5): some years ago I wished to view the electoral register.
This was available on request at the Didcot Library. Indeed, I believe that at some time it was on open display in the library.
Some while later, I again wished to view the document, but I was told that the library did not hold a copy. I then crossed the road and called into the council offices where I was told that they held a copy but I was not allowed to see it. If I wanted to view the document, I was required to visit South Oxfordshire District Council in Crowmarsh Gifford where I would be able to see it under supervision.
I understand that these conditions to view the register are determined by some jobsworth in SODC. Yet anyone with a few spare bob can have the document delivered on request. Most unsatisfactory.
George Noble, Didcot
