TALKING of getting from A to B, anyone commuting into Oxford might be better off buying a boat than a car in the not too distant future.
If the charity responsible for England’s canals gets it way, we will have 182 fewer parking spaces and a nice new water feature instead.
The Canal and River Trust wants to get its hands on Worcester Street car park and restore it to the canal basin it once was.
It is a lovely, romantic idea. But we simply do not have enough parking space in Oxford as it is, so it is worrying that the city council appears to share the Trust’s vision.
Regrettably, without guarantees that the lost parking places will be replaced elsewhere this well-meaning but flawed plan should be allowed to sink without trace.
