TWO teenagers appeared in court in Oxford today charged with the murder of Stephen Langford in Henley-on-Thames.

James Diggins, 19, of Devon Drive, Caversham Park Village, Reading, and Kes Ingoldsby, 18, of Wargrave Road, Henley, were both granted bail.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "The Crown Prosecution Service have appealed this decision and both defendants will have to appear before a judge at Oxford Crown Court within 48 hours."

The charges follow the death of Mr Langford, 43, after in an incident outside the police station in Henley-upon-Thames as he walked home in the early hours of Saturday.

A post-mortem examination showed the mobile phone network area manager from St Anne's Close, Henley, died from a head injury.

The Henley MP, Boris Johnson, knew Mr Langford through fundraising activities in the town.

Mr Johnson said: "He was a very, very nice guy. I want to reassure people Henley is still one of the safest places in Britain.

"Mr Langford was a man who put himself out to help others and to raise funds for many good causes."

Mr Langford was walking home after a night with friends when the incident happened in Grays Road, yards from the police station.

A police officer tried to resuscitate him and he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital but later died.

Mr Langford was a regular at the Bird In Hand pub in Henley and noted for his charity work in the town with the Round Table.
