I would like to praise Robin Spokes for his letter, English and proud (Oxford Mail, November 29). I agree with him 100 per cent.

I am not British - no such country.

I am not European - not a country.

I am not 'white other' - whatever that is!

I was born at 86 Wolsey Road, Cutteslowe Estate, Oxford, on July 11, 1936. To be a true Oxonian, I believe you have to be born within the city walls, so strictly speaking, I am not a true Oxonian, but I am definitely English and proud of it.

I suggest to Mr Spokes he crosses out British and writes English. Or better still, throw the form in the bin, depending on whether the form is mandatory or not.
