It was love at first bite for a Didcot couple who are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.
Harry Cubby, 86, met his wife to be Peggy, 95, in Carlisle shortly before the Second World War when they both worked at Carr's biscuit factory. But their acquaintance was cut short when Mr Cubby joined the Navy in 1939.
When he returned to Carlisle after the war, the couple met up again and the rest is history.
The couple, who have five children and five grandchildren, married in Mrs Cubby's native Gretna on December 6, 1946.
Soon after they moved to Didcot when Mr Cubby began work at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Harwell.
Until last year the couple lived in Glebe Road but have now moved to The Meadows home in Britwell Road, where they celebrated the milestone with family and friends.
And the secret to a long and happy marriage?
"Don't be too hard. Be lenient with each other, it's about give and take," said Mrs Cubby.
Mr Cubby added: "You have to help each other out and work out your problems the best you can."
