SHOPPERS were snapping up environmentally-friendly and ethically-aware Christmas presents at the Green Party's annual winter fair.

The fair, now in its 26th year, was held at Oxford Town Hall at the weekend.

More than 90 stalls were set up in three rooms, selling items such as African Fairtrade bowls and advent calendars and hand-painted tiles and ceramics.

Scores of shoppers perused the stalls and among them was Peter Tatchell, gay rights activist and Green Party member.

Craig Simmons, leader of Oxford's Green Party, said: "It really was very busy and was certainly the biggest fair yet.

"The majority of people were doing their Christmas shopping and were perhaps looking for something more ethical as we are all aware of how wasteful Christmas can be."
