MOTORISTS travelling on the M40 were able to stop off for some crime reduction advice today as well as a cup of tea at a crime reduction exhibition at the Welcome Break services, near Wheatley.

The exhibition was being staffed by Police Community Support Officer (PSCO) Chris Ratcliff, who regularly patrols the service station to help prevent crime.

He was joined by the Thame PCSO Zoe Eele, PC Russell Hounslow, the area beat officer for Thame and Lesley Nesbitt Thame crime reduction advisor and together they were promoting crime prevention techniques to help reduce car crime.

PCSO Chris Ratcliff, of Thame police station, said: "The services are unfortunately somewhere that opportunist criminals like to strike, as they know that cars are left unattended and that there may be valuables such as laptops, mobile phones and satellite navigation equipment inside.

"We need the public to realise that they need to heed our advice on removing all valuables whenever they leave their car unattended and that they should invest in good security measures to help prevent crime.

"We will be on site at the services throughout the day to help motorists realise the dangers and to promote awareness of crime prevention techniques, so if you are in the area pop in, meet the local officers and take away some useful advice."
