HAVING welcomed visitors at Christ Church Cathedral Oxford for many years, I was sorry to read Angie Bell’s letter (August 23) and to hear that she had had a bad experience when visiting with a Japanese group.
Firstly, I would like to apologise on behalf of the many welcomers who love doing this job and who go out of their way to be polite, give a friendly smile and word, offering information leaflets in their own language to the hundreds of visitors, whether individually or in groups, who come to visit our beautiful cathedral. I hope she will visit again under happier circumstances.
I agree that the custodians also do a great job and I’d like to welcome the new assistant head custodian, Helen Dennett, to her new post. I hope she has many happy years there.
