FIRE chiefs want to find out what Oxfordshire people think of a string of community safety initiatives proposed for the next 12 months.

The public is being asked to comment on Oxfordshire Fire And Rescue Service's Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) which outlines a series of proposals aimed at improving the service over the next 12 months.

The proposals are for a shift in emphasis from dealing with fires to prevention of fires.

Among the ideas being put forward by the service is a plan to create an arson prevention officer to reduce the risk of arson through education and prevention schemes.

There is also a proposal to create a heritage scheme to identify the major heritage sites in the county such as Blenheim Palace and Oxford University buildings and establish plans with decent information for fire crews.

More community safety education is planned as well as an initiative to get Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue service to work with the neighbouring fire services of Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.

People can offer their thoughts on the proposals by completing a short online questionnaire at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/irmp or by email at: irmpteam@oxfordshire.gov.uk or phone on: 08000 325999. The consultation period closes on 9 February 2007. This will be published by the middle of next year.
