OXFORD: The controversial Castle Mill student accommodation near Port Meadow is a step closer to being officially labelled the ugliest new building in the UK.
Construction industry journal Building Design (BD) awards the Carbuncle Cup to the “most hideous monstrosity” built in the last year.
The Castle Mill student flats, above, have overcome hundreds of nominees to make the shortlist of the final six.
The winner will be announced on Friday, August 30.
The flats in Roger Dudman Way have been the subject of a protracted struggle as campaigners say they spoil views of the dreaming spires from Port Meadow.
