Sir - I am surprised that you gave so much space (Report, December 1) to Jeremy Clarkson's pathetic arguments that imposing a speed limit on the A44 has caused people to drive on the wrong side of the road and, in turn, made him dice with death every time he uses that road.

He urges a 60mph minimum speed limit instead. Logic and road safety experience suggests the opposite - a 40mph maximum limit, coupled with as many speed cameras as possible. If he clocks up enough points to be disqualified, then at least others will feel safer!
