THE REVIVED Rock in the Park music festival did a “great credit” to the Sweatbox youth club who organised it.
Hundreds turned out to the weekend’ festival at the Rec, Manor Road, Wantage, on July 13-14, from noon to 8pm on both days, organised by teenagers from the youth club.
Three years of funding problems had meant that the festival could not happen, but the members of the Sweatbox Union persuaded Oxfordshire County Council to give them £4,800 to fund it alongside other grants Union member Beth Costar, 18, from Grove was in charge of booking and organising the bands.
She said: “It went really well. I and a lot of the team had not personally helped with Rock in the Park before, but a lot of people complimented us on how well organised it was.
“It is not every day that a group of teenagers are let loose to run such an event.”
Now, after going to the Sweatbox since she was 14, Miss Costar will be able to put all her experience to go use, as she is going to study music management at Amersham and Wycombe College.
She added: “It is scary to be moving on. Everyone says they grow up there and it’s true, we are like a family.”
