Sir – Mr Dane Clouston (Letters, June 27) writes of his “mortal human spirit”. But the great majority of those who have studied psychic research have concluded that people’s spirits live long after the death of their physical bodies.

This is nothing to do with belief in God or religion. It is a simple scientific fact, though not one that can be repeatedly tested in a laboratory, as sceptics constantly demand.

I am confident that Mr Clouston and other humanists and atheists will change their view soon after they have shuffled off their mortal coils.

Will they communicate with their friends and relations still in the material world ? Probably not! But many thousands of other people have.
