HUNDREDS of parents, staff and pupils at Northbourne School were treated to a thundering rendition of classics from Didcot Community Gospel Choir.

On Friday, crowds gathered at the school in Cockcroft Road, Didcot, to take part in the celebrations.

School governor of 20 years Eleanor Hards, from Didcot, said: “It was a fantastic day, and to see all the children singing was truly marvellous.

“The school choir helped out and it was a very special experience.

“It has been an honour to serve the school for so long. This has been a truly unique day, we all had a lot of fun.”

A solo spot from pupil Alisha Budziszehwi,11, was singled out as a highlight of the performance.

Earlier in the week a special outdoor 50th birthday party was held, with the centrepiece being a cake created in the shape of the school building.

Upton resident and full-time conductor Sarah Tenant-Flowers said: “Combining the school choir and adults was hugely exciting and sounded really powerful. It was a really happy concert, relaxed and informal, and a great night out.

“It was fab to see children involved. I went to a choir as a child, heard the adults singing and thought ‘wow’.

“So if a child hears this and gets excited that’s a really positive thing.”
