WORK on the controversial Barns Road development spearheaded by Grand Designs TV presenter Kevin McCloud will begin later this year.

The multi-million pound developments will involve building more than 100 homes over three sites as well as state-of-the-art community facilities.

The homes will be built in Cowley and in Northway by Mr McCloud’s development company Hab in partnership with housing association GreenSquare – in a joint venture called Haboakus.

Oxford City Council approved the scheme earlier this year despite objections from the community.

Haboakus expects to start construction at Barns Road at the end of this year and the 40 apartments with a residents’ roof garden and community rooms will be finished at the end of 2014.

Work at Dora Carr Close in Northway – where there will be 47 homes plus a new community centre – and at Westlands Drive – which will consist of 21 one and two-bedroom flats – are both expected to begin in late 2014.
