A jeweller dressed as Dolly Parton was among the petrol-heads taking part in drag racing yesterday.
Mike Shorer, who has made replica historical jewellery for the Holy Cross Day celebrations in Waltham Abbey, took to his bike for the high-speed races at North Weald Airfield dressed as the country singer for a dare.
The 55-year-old said: “I told one of my business mates I was doing a drag racing event for charity and he said ‘is that running around a track dressed as a girl?’
“He said he’d sponsor me if I dressed up as Dolly Parton as well.
“The track had to be past 90 degrees, so with race leathers and a 52 DD bra filled with bubble wrap, it was a bit hot.”
He took part in several races in his Suzuki GSXR 750, reaching nearly 120 mph.
