PEOPLE are invited to meet a new living history group and find out more about Bicester’s past.

Bicester Home Guard Living History Group, which made its debut appearance at Bicester Carnival last month, is hosting a Meet the Home Guard evening on Wednesday.

People can go along to Launton Parish Hall at 8.15pm and find out more about the group and its future plans.

Member Pete Chivers said: “The aim of the group is to educate and to inform the public about the Home Front in Britain during the war years of the 1940s and to commemorate the role that the Bicester Battalion of the Home Guard played in the local community at that time.”

It includes the role played by women, air-raid wardens, ambulance and fire service and children and evacuees.

Mr Chivers said: “Bicester Home Guard has already attended several shows throughout the area providing an educational experience.

“We also aim to provide educational presentations to schools and other interested groups within the local area.”

Entry to the meeting is free. For more information see http://bicesterhomeguard.org or call Andy Hunter on 07841 477771.
