I JUST happened to be on a coach returning from a lovely afternoon out on Wednesday and arrived at the bottom of Headley Way at about 5.25pm.

The traffic was at a standstill and the severe congestion throughout Headley Way and the London Road to Green Road Roundabout was horrendous. We eventually arrived in Risinghurst, after dropping off our group at around 7pm.

I did find out later that a coach had broken down at the Green Road Roundabout, so that might have been a factor.

Our journey towards Green Road Roundabout, pictured, was badly hampered by the ridiculous layout of the junction of Osler Road and the London Road.

An S5 Stagecoach double-decker bus was trying to turn left into Osler Road and a No 10 Stagecoach single-decker was trying to turn right to gain access.

Neither of them could swing into Osler Road because of the line of cars waiting to come into the London Road from Osler Road, and the legally parked cars on the nearside close to the junction in Osler Road.

Whoever thought that double-decker buses, or in fact any buses, could negotiate efficiently this very narrow and congested road certainly didn’t do their homework and monitor the area before deciding to allow parking so close to the London Road.

To add to the very heavy traffic congestion already in the area by keeping this parking, and not making alterations to the entrance of Osler Road, does not bode well for the support of local people for the council in the future.
