South Central Ambulance Service is warning people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and to be cautious around open water.
Last weekend 999 calls to the service increased by 33 per cent.
Between July 5 and 7, the service took 5,336 emergency calls, of which 1,136 were potential life-threatening.
Operations director John Nichols said: βThe message is simple β enjoy the summer, respect the sun, stay out of open water and stay safe.β
He said waterways can have treacherous undercurrents and reservoirs can have working equipment under the surface.
